Question:

Little kid troubles?

Okay this little girl named Sadie, she's 3, her mouth had hit a bar a couple min ago and she bit her lip. She made a small incision on the inside of her mouth, but not large or deep enough to go to the hospital. We had given her a wash rag and a plastic "drink cooler" to put on her lip. She wouldn't stop crying about it so i took away the wash rag and gave her just the "drink cooler". She just stopped crying and says it feels better and she now is just sucking on the drink cooler like a popsicle. I just want to know, will she feel pain later on, or will there be no pain? And what are the best things to feed her without hurting her cut in the inside of her lip. Thanks to anyone who helps!

  1. it will be slighly sore for awhile direct touching will hurt most.  if it seems to bother her tylenol for a short period will help

  2. Yes there will be pain, don't give her anything acidic because that will cause the cut to burn.  Give her comfort foods that are cool to keep the swelling down.  I would recommend chocolate pudding (I did that for my little girl) and other things.  No chips or crackers because they are abrasive and will cause the sore to tear open agian.

  3. Don't give her anything acidic. orange juice or anything citrus.  She will be fine in a day.  Cuts heal really fast inside your mouth.  Freezie pops are good too, they tend to numb it without the little ones really knowing it.  No salty items either, chips, pretzels anything like that's.  Soft foods,  bananas, oatmel, cherrios.  Good Luck

  4. Swelling from the cut is what she is trying to get to stop.  The ice pack she is using is great.  No real pain should linger if it is a shallow cut.  Leaving it alone for a few hours will help it heal unless the bleeding re-starts.  So give her cold drinks or refrigerated food that is not crunchy or hard to chew.

Orajel for kids is sold at the drug stores.  It is like in a micro-squeeze bottle.  You may need it if the cut becomes "itchy" and she starts biting it.

Most likely it will heal normally.
