  1. i promise yer not gonna get lice and mtes or any of that c**p people say. you should start with one parakeet for the first1 or 2 weeks get him settled in and be prepared for another parakeet and for the love of parakeets dont have the fan on when they are not in there cage and they are gonna be loud cuz there not familer with the area and talk to them comfort them so they know that your the owner and another good thing to do is keep the tv on so they stayed ocupied wall you are not around

take a look at these clips before you get your parakeets.

Remember if you want the bird to bond with you, then you are better off with one bird.  Two birds bond with each other and it is more difficult to tame them.  But if you can't spare at least one hour to play with your bird it is better to get him a buddy.

Good Luck!  Budgies are fun, loving and adorable pets!

  3. get a book on the bird you are getting and research it on the internet the parakeet handbook is a great book its by barrons

  4. Don't get them lice stuff because bird defenders you hang in the cage could cause liver damage.  You can spray them with lice spray later on (mites) but not when you first get them and you have to be sure you don't get it in their eyes.  You get them food, water, millets, use newspaper at bottom of cage and change it twice a week.  Don't get sandpaper perches.  Karen H

  5. It is very rare for a bird to get lice in the first place--I have never heard an example of anyone who needed to treat their bird for lice, all I've heard is that it is possible--so it isn't much to worry about. I've never heard of anyone getting mites from a bird at all. Usually, birds get feather mites, which live in the bird's feathers. Since people don't have feathers it's impossible for us to "catch" feather mites. And, of course, there are treatments you can buy to treat lice and mites should it turn out that your bird has them. Most pet stores do sell feather mite killers, although I'm not sure if avian treatments for lice are as common because it isn't a common thing to have to deal with.

As far as general parakeet care goes, the best thing you can do is to get a book. I don't know why so many people ignore this step: most pet stores and libraries carry books on keeping various kinds of birds, including parakeets, and care guides have the absolute best tips for a beginner bird owner, being not only easy to understand but chock full of just about anything you could think to ask. They are free if you find one at your local library, and far more trustworthy than something some random guy on the internet tells you.
