  1. It is very normal for the swelling to continue but not in the way you are describing. I recommend taking her to the A&E. While you are there i recommend asking about the physio.

  2. hi,

I think they said it would go down in 3 days then its worth taking her to A&E just to make sure that everything is alright.

Its better to be safe then sorry and it does sound quite bad.

    Good luck

  3. Well, it can be normal for swelling to linger for a long time. It will also depend on how long she's had the cast off for. I had my cast taken off a while ago (I broke my humerus and I was in plaster for 3months) and my arm is still swollen, but not double the size.

Also bear in mind that when you break a bone, the 'swell' around the break develops because the body is joining and reforming bone. This new bone won't be in the same shape as the old bone - it'll be bigger, make up for the weakness there.

Just to be sure you ought to take her to A&E, they'll be able to give it a look over and check its as it should be. There's no harm in being safe.

When you're there ask about physio. I'm 15weeks in from having broken my arm and I've only had one session (but that's cause my arm is still in a state when I could easily rebreak it right now). They might tell you that she needs to be referred to the physio - as long as everything is ok. It might actually help with the swelling, because it encourages excess fluid from the site to move.

Hope it all turns out ok for her.
