  1. Leaving your rat for the night with them might not be a good idea. Late or not, it's your pet! Take care of it. Clean its cage now!

They do not sounds anything a rat would cause. Sounds like some household pest that is attracted to the rat. Possibly because you are not cleaning often enough. Or maybe the bedding, what sort of bedding are you using? But also, they might likely be harming your rat. Since they are wild insects, they might be carrying illnesses that could transfer to the rat and make it ill and in need of vet care.

You hardly gave a description, so no one can identify them for you, but check this site: http://www.pestcontrolcanada.com/insects...

Whatever they are, remember that whatever you use to kill them might be dangerous ot the rat, bug spray wise.

  2. It will probably go away after you clean it.

  3. You gotta clean it out, now and get the rats out of there. What type of bedding are you using? Sometimes the bedding can carry small bugs like mites. Disinfect everything the bugs have gotten on.

There's a chance that the bugs might be on the rat's fur. Check them and make sure their skin is free of the bugs. Check their fur and skin everyday for these bugs. If they remain on there, I would suggest ordering Ivermectin (horse dewormer paste) and giving them a TINY dosage (half the size of a grain of rice) once a week for 3 weeks.  This will kill any lice, fleas, or mites present on the rat.

  4. you should definentally clena the cage and surrounding areas very well!  you could also go to your local pet store and ask for some type of bug killer that wouldnt harm your rat.

    Hope this helps!!!
