LittleBigPlanet 2, 2011 through the eyes of a gamer – Part 1
A year is defined just as much by the events that unfold as it is by the dates on the calendar and 2011 is quite an eventful year for gamers and the interactive entertainment industry.
We, here at Bettor.com, thought that with only a month to go before the turn of the new year, it would be nice to look back at 2011 and how gamers spent their lives drooling in anticipation for certain games, dropping their jaws at certain announcements
and throwing their controllers in frustration when some games let them down.
So, we begin our dive into nostalgia with a game that is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face and was surely the best possible way to start the new year. We are of course talking about no other game then Media Molecule’s
LittleBigPlanet 2.
The sequel to the blockbuster first game, LittleBigPlanet 2 continued to wave the banner of Play.Create.Share, which brought a revolution in user created content on the PlayStation 3 console.
Many analysts put forward PlayStation 3 exclusive franchises such as Killzone, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo as console movers, yet LittleBigPlanet itself has a considerable consumer base as well.
The game built upon the simple, yet deep creation tools of the first game and players could not only create their own levels, but also their own games inside the game as well; a form of ‘Inception’ if the reader fancies it.
Yet, the true selling point of the game was Sack Boy or Sack Girl, depending on the user’s preference, and how much fun it was to make the characters smile, dress up and slap each other around all the while wondering on how earth they managed to make it
to the end of the stage.
Media Molecule have announced that they plan on giving the LittleBigPlanet series a break and will be working on other projects as well. This should not come as a disappointed move to gamers thought, seeing how the game is virtually self-sufficient when
it comes to new content.
At the same time, developers have provided support to the title with a number of patches and Downloadable Content Packs. One of the updates even added PlayStation Move compatibility to the game.
While its sales figures may not be the highest in the world, managing to sell 1.5-million units worldwide since its release January 18, the game has gone on to form a bit of cult status of itself and Sack Boy has even become one of the gaming world’s most
un-likeliest icons.
In short, LittleBigPlanet 2 is one the best, if not THE, best party games that the PlayStation 3 has on offer and it would be shame for any gamer not to give the game a try by the end of the year. The reader need not buy it, all he has to do is go to a friend’s
house and slap him around once or maybe dance in the game to understand what LittleBigPlanet is all about.
So, 2011 was off to a bright start, yet there was another game that released on the same day as well and although Xbox 360 and PC gamers had already gotten their hands on it, it was a fine occasion for PlayStation 3 users.
