LittleBigPlanet Karting beta coming July 10 – Video Games Update
Sony has announced that the beta for the upcoming Go-Kart racing game, LittleBigPlanet (LBP) Karting, will be hitting the Playstation Network on July 10, 2012.
Sony has been getting a lot of inspiration from Nintendo, which enjoys monopolistic sales over many of its casual Intellectual properties (IPs) such as Mario Kart and the Super Smash fighting series, both being exclusive to Nintendo consoles.
ModNation Racers, a Go-Kart racing game, developed by United Front Games, came out exclusively for the Playstation 3 but failed to get the same amount of popularity like that was enjoyed by its Nintendo counterpart, Mario Kart on the Nintendo Wii.
The main problem that gamers had was that the load times between the races were excruciatingly long which took a lot out of the games' enjoyment. The main catch of ModNation Racers was that gamers could create custom tracks and Karts, much like the creation
system of LBP games. The game got above average reviews but didn’t manage to do well in the market.
It seems that Sony is trying their hand at Kart racing again with the same developer, just that this time they have the LittleBigPlanet logo slapped on the game’s cover. LBP Karting is being developed by United Front Games who will get help from Sony’s first
party developer Media Molecule, the creators of LBP 1 and 2.
The game was announced on March 22, 2012 and is expected to be released in fall 2012. Sony announced on the official Playstation blog that there will be a beta for the game for which interested gamers can sign up on the official Playstation site.
It is a smart move by Sony, as not only can they test the game out but they can also make changes according to the fan feedback from the beta release. Considering the nature of the game, where the main catch is to create your own Go-Karts and levels, many
fans that get hooked on the beta are likely to stick around for the final game.
Today Sony has announced that it has started sending out Beta codes to the gamers who had registered. Gamers who haven’t gotten their code yet should be patient as Sony has just sent out a handful of invites so far but will be sending out a lot more before
the beta program for the game closes on July 31, 2012.
