All those who attended Destination PlayStation were treated to the reveal of a Kart racing version of Media Molecule’s popular LBP series.
Sony seemed to have gotten better at keeping secrets over the years. More often than not, the public would know everything the consumer electronics giant was set to reveal days if not weeks before the official reveal.
This time around there was a pleasant surprise in store for everyone who was present at the Destination PlayStation event as one of the gaming world’s most adored franchises, LittleBigPlanet, was revealed to have a new title in the works.
LittleBigPlanet Karting is set to be the game that every LBP fan will be looking forward to and is sure to make the already easy to pick up and play game more accessible and open to an even greater consumer base.
There were rumours about the game circulating on the internet earlier on, though credit to Sony for keeping it to hours and not weeks, yet confirmation has come in the form of a number of screen shots appearing of the game online.
One source of the ‘leak’ is Future Shop Gamer, a US retailer that shared the images via its Twitter account.
Though there aren’t too many details there are a few tid-bits that can be relied upon. Firstly, is the news that the game is set to have a special peripheral to enhance the experience: a PlayStation Move wheel peripheral.
At the same time it has also been confirmed that the game is 3D compatible, a trend that is consistent with all major first-party releases from Sony.
Last but not least, is the most obvious bit of news and that is the fact that the game will be a PlayStation exclusive, though there is no word as to whether the game will be released for the PlayStation Vita or not.
Sack Boy is following in the footsteps of another platforming icon as Nintendo’s Mario also went into the Karting genre a long time ago and the series did great business. Another PlayStation icon, Crash Bandicoot also went down the same path with the same result.
So, based on history at least, the move seems a fairly sound one, yet will the game retain the charm of the LittleBigPlanet series that has captured the imagination of gamers or is it just a way to squeeze more money out of the franchise?
We’re counting on the former being true.
