Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive karting game from United Front Games will let players customize everything in the LittleBigPlanet Karting from the karts to the weapons.
LittleBigPlanet is one of gaming and PlayStation’s most adored series with both LittleBigPlanet and its sequel appealing to a large consumer base. It may look like a children’s platformer yet the true joy, which gamers find in the game, comes from the deep
customization and creation tools that the game comes with.
In the first LBP game players could customize their characters and create levels and the sequel took that one step further by allowing players to create their own games within LittleBigPlanet. Almost like the Inception of gaming as it had a game within a
game.
However, the game’s developer, Media Molecule, announced that they were moving on to other titles after making the LBP games pretty much self-sufficient in terms of producing fresh content. Over a million levels have been created by gamers for LittleBigPlanet
1 and 2 and that number is growing by the day.
So when Sony announced they were releasing a karting game based with the LBP banner, many were excited and a few remained sceptical. The sceptics were concerned over the lack of Media Molecule’s involvement, however, judging by the studio’s recent announcement
that seems to have changed.
It should be pointed out that the studio developing LBP Karting is the same studio that previously worked on ModNation Racers, and William Ho, the game’s design director, explains that gamers can expect plenty of similarities between the two.
"Racing is identical across both games from the sense of speed, to car handling, to drifting. Replace the Mods with Sackboys, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect." He explained.
As for the level and depth of customization, well it turns out that players can customize just about anything including weapons and if customizing is not enough, gamers can create their own weapons as well.
"If you don't like the weapons that ship with the game, you can alter them. You can alter their behaviour, their look, the frequency of those weapons. You can even make your own entirely custom weapons using the objects that we ship with the game."
