Liu Chuang eliminates Tom Ford from 2011 World Snooker Championships, Qualifiers Round 3
Tom Ford lost to Liu Chuang by a frame score of 10-8 in the qualifiers round 3 of the 2011 World Snooker Championships at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, England.
Tom Ford a year ago made his first World Championships debut in 2010. But this year he has fallen short to the Chinese star, Liu Chuang, and would not be playing at the Crucible Theatre.
Liu Chuang, on the same note, has made an accomplishing performance. He came up against Ford after beating the likes of David Grey and the Whirlwind, Jimmy White, in round one and two respectively.
The 20-year-old, Chuang, presented an excellent game to see off his experienced opponent. The overall score line between the players was 8-64, 63-33, 8-127, 9-67, 83-18, 21-71, 63-43, 38-71, 18-109, 112-19, 2-76, 22-73, 79-0, 74-35, 56-43, 65-31, 55-68,
and 11-60.
Chuang dominated the first frame with a break of 44 whereas Ford responded in the second with breaks of 20, 16 and 23 to level the things by 1-1.
In the third frame Ford got a couple of chances first but couldn’t avail them until he was left flabbergasted when the teenager fired up a magnificent match-highest century break of 127. He also took the following frame with a decisive break of 66 to lead
by 3-1 before the interval.
After the interval the first frame was taken by Ford with a break of 52 before Chuang responded with a decisive 56 in the next. Seventh frame was a scrappy affair. Bout of safety was seen between the players until Ford came on top of it to come within one
frame by 4-3.
Ford was again the first to be among the balls in the eighth but he broke at a break of 38 and when the chance presented itself, Chuang slotted a carving break of 71 followed by another 91 in the ninth frame to end the first session with a 6-3 lead.
In the evening session Ford, who was playing slow otherwise, also showed his break-building skills and, on getting a chance, dominated the first frame with an overwhelming century break of 112.
However, his opponent had no reeling effects as he again took two frames in a row with dominant breaks of 49 and 44 respectively.
It looked like as if the match was almost through when suddenly Ford, who was trailing by 8-4, bounced back with all of his zeal, energy and strength and pocketed the next four frames in a row to level the things by 8-8. He enjoyed classy breaks of 74, 60,
20, and 31 respectively.
It looked as he believed he could pull one of the great escapes which the world championships are renowned for. However, he lost control of his emotions in the next frame after a break of 45 and give his opponent a chance to roll in a couple of 28 and 15
to lead by 9-8.
Chuang, who was looking for only one frame, sealed his victory by 10-8 in the nineteenth after a bout of safety. He will now face the Welshman, Ryan Day, in the final qualifying match of the 2011 World Snooker Championships.
