Liu Song ousts Noppon Seangkham in the China Open 2011 qualifiers – Round one
China’s Liu Song put up a thrilling show and convincingly beat Noppon Seangkham of Thailand 5-1 in the first round of China Open 2011 qualifiers. The 27-year old Chinese completely overcame the young Thai cueist. Seangkham, winner of 2009 IBSF World Under-21
Championship, did not have a single chance to bounce back into the game after the second frame.
Song occupied the first frame 78-52 with less effort as Seangkham gave him 35 points playing eight foul shots. Even his own break of 39 could not save his frame-defeat and a little addition of 28 points from Song awarded the Chinese with a 1-0 starting lead.
However, Seangkham’s small but decent breaks of 22 and 29 did take him to a 1-1 game score as he clinched the second frame 41-61 despite Song’s break of 41. After the scores levelled, Song did not let the young 18-year-old Thai take any chance to drive his
victory away from him. Song won consecutive four frames to ensure his win over the youngster.
Song took the third frame 78-32 with a couple of stunning 33 and 40 breaks in reply to Seangkham’s 32. He then snatched the next frame by 68-21 to gain a 3-1 lead.
Liu Song, the 2003 IBSF Under-21 World Championship runner-up and the first Chinese player to qualify for the advance stages of a ranking tournament, ruled the fifth frame. He got a lead of 41-17 in the beginning of the frame but he missed a shot letting
the young Seangkham take the chance to strike back into the game. Somehow, the Thai cueist managed to add only 15 more points and the Chinese, without making any mistake, cleared the table with a 32 winning break.
The last frame took a little longer as both players tussled but eventually, Song took care of the frame 73-43 and won the game 5-1. Frame scores of the match were 78-52, 41-61, 78-32, 68-21, 68-32 and 73-43. Liu Song will face England’s 38-year-old Adrian
Gunnell in the second round of 2011 China Open qualifiers.
Another Chinese, Xiao Guodong dribbled into the second round of the China Open 2011 qualifiers stepping over Dermot McGlinchey of Northern Ireland 5-2 in the first-round qualifying match. He will meet England’s Joe Jogia in round two of China Open 2011 qualifiers.
