Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan wrap up Men’s Doubles title at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012
China’s impressive young shuttlers Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan showed their brilliance in the court and wrapped up the Men’s Doubles title at SCG Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 at Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday, June 10.
The World Number 15 Xiaolong and Zihan, who were top seeds in the tournament, showed their aggression in the final contest and outplayed Malaysia’s Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari in an emphatic fashion.
The higher ranked Chinese shuttlers remained impressive throughout the tournament and continued their roller-coaster run in the title match as well. They worked really hard and eventually won the final contest in straight games by taking just 37 minutes
in the court.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Malaysians have also been playing remarkable badminton in the whole tournament but failed to live up to expectations in the final contest and bowed down to their higher ranked Chinese opponents in straight games with a
respectable margin on the board.
In the opening game, Xiaolong and Zihan played dominating badminton from opening points but failed to maintain their lead as their lower ranked Malaysian also put up wonderful show and remained close on the board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the both pairs continued putting up fascinating show of top class badminton and reached at 15-15 when Xiaolong and Zihan played with precision and started to take lead.
The higher ranked Chinese continued their supremacy at the ending phase of opening game and managed to win it with a reasonable margin of 21-18.
In the second game, both sides again snapped each other’s heel by playing to their maximum speed until the score reached at 6-6.
At this stage, Xiaolong and Zihan geared up their speed at net and also played powerful smashes from the rear-court area. They managed an 11-7 lead on the board until the end of opening half.
After the break, the top seeded Xiaolong and Zihan continued their positive and commanding performance in the court and won the set with a close margin of 21-19.
Xiaolong and Zihan bagged the Men’s Doubles title by beating their Malaysian rivals in the final battle with a 21-18 and 21-19 score on the board.
