Liuyang Jiao and Jing Zhao pocket Women’s 100m IM title in Beijing: 2011 FINA World Cup
Asian and world champion, Liuyang Jiao of China settled for a tie with her rival, Jing Zhao, on the second evening of the seven-stop FINA World Cup series in Beijing, China, on Wednesday, November 9. Jiao and Zhao shared Women’s 100m Individual Medley title.
Chinese veteran and Olympic medallist, Liuyang Jiao and Jing Zhao got off to a flying start in the final heat and settled at first place by thrashing the finishing blockade in a matching time of 59.50 seconds. Jiao won silver medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly
race at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing.
Liuyang Jiao is a competitive swimmer of China. She won gold medal in the 4x100m medley at the 2009 World Championships edition, in Rome. In addition, she claimed golden crown in the 200m butterfly race at the 2011 World Championships, in Shanghai. Furthermore,
Jiao grabbed two gold medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly races at the 2009 Asian Games edition, in Foshan.
In the meantime, Olivia Halicek of Australia claimed third position by touching the finishing cordon in a time of 1 minute and 01.01 seconds in the respective race. Additionally, Jing Liu of China settled at fourth place in a time of 1 minute and 01.06 seconds.
Hye Ra Choi of Korea also splashed hard in the respective swim and picked fifth spot by clicking the finishing blockade in a time of 1 minute and 01.49 seconds.
Tomoyo Fukuda of Japan also impressed Beijing’s arena and secured sixth place in a time of 1 minute and 01.56 seconds. On the other hand, Ellen Amelia Fullerton of Australia performed well by earning seventh position in a time of 1 minute and 03.28 seconds.
Last, but not the least, Iuliia Larina of Russia gave her best try by touching the finishing cordon in a mark of 1 minute and 04.80 seconds.
Both Jiao and Zhao shared the gold medal after the end of the session. The final round of the seven-stop FINA World Cup Series is set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from November 12-13.
