I just returned from living in Europe after ten years of being there. I now live in California.  When I moved to the Netherlands in 1997, it was idyllic and I was so impressed. But over time, and being a citizen there, speaking their language and truly assimilating, I now have other impressions.  There are good points about Holland, and also about all of the other places I visited, such as Paris, Poland, Greece, Germany and so on; but there are also the things that the normal American can not see until they live there for a time. All grass looks greener over the fence, but once living there, reality hits.

I found that all places have problems, including USA and California.  I can speak the language here better, and know how to complain when things are not oK.  I like some parts of our economy, but also some of the European economy. Gas is $3 here; $8 in Holland for one gallon of gas.  Clothes are a bit less quality than here, unless you pay a large amount at a few places. There are no varieties of things, and they don't stock like here.  You wait for things, and must have patience.

You get none of the freebies, such as when you buy a camera and get a printer thrown in. Over there, I had to pay separate, even though I showed them on the computer that it was a package deal. Not over there!  Returning faulty things are very difficult...always keep that receipt, and sometimes that doesn't work.  

The good....so wonderful to just be living where you saw the places only on TV.  The foods are great to try, but bottom line...you are where you are...you take yourself with you, so if you are happy here, you will be there. Conversely, if you are unhappy here, you will hate Europe after a couple of years.

id rather live in europe because people are polite and you dont see idiotic street gangsters in europe like bloods and cripe. its safe. if romania had a good economy i would live there but now i wish to live in russia.
