Question:

Live in position: monetary compensation?

am considering to take a live in position to do some care-giving of an elderly woman and light house cleaning and cooking. The person I will work for really needs help. She is a sociology professor, has cancer and lives with her mom, whom needs help as well. I have agreed to help her out in exchange for room and board. However, I am not sure what would be a fair for me to ask in terms of monetary compensation. I am a college student, and making a bit of extra money would help to pay for my gas and travel expenses, car insurance payments (every 3 months), and just little things needed. If you were in my situation, what do you think is a fair amount to ask for? I would appreciate your feedback or suggestions, please no rude comments. I am doing this with the best intention of helping her out and taking care of my basic needs. Thanks

  1. Looking at various jobs offered on website below, and without calling to determine unspecified compensation, it would appear that $1000/month

is not unreasonable - especially care-giving for two!
