Is it better (long term) for my 2 year old to live 5 min from his grandparents, aunt and his couins in a home with average to below average school system and town or live 30 minutes away in a great town, way above average schools, town, resources etc. in a small town home?

  1. I'd say move to a great town. This is your child's future after all. Besides, family is only 30 minutes away. You own a car, don't you?

Plus, you have a land line and internet, so you don't have to worry much about being away or disconnected from the rest of your family. It's not like you're not going to see them for the rest of your life, no?

    Hope that helps =]

  2. 30 minutes one way or the other does not make any difference.  Honey, I travel to work 45 minutes one way every single day.  So move where your child will get the best education possible and travel to see family.  It's not that far.

  3. 30 minutes was my commute to school when I was in High school. Always go for the better school. When I saw your question I thought it would be hours away.

In my opinion it is better not to live near family, just because when you are around family you tend to get into more trouble than normal. I live about 12 hours away from any one in my extended family, and I am glad, most of my cousins had kids before they were 18, or were in jail by that time. Only one or two of them is not in a desperate situation.

  4. away? it is only 30 minutes with a much better school. it is still close to family!!! go, go go!!!

  5. If you have reliable childcare in the great town, I would go there and visit the family as often as I could. If you are unsure of your childcare situation, then I would stay close to family. I have a two year old myself, and although I might want to live somewhere else I depend on my family a lot to help when going to college and working.
