I have a live oak tree that has little limbs growing from the roots that are near the top soil. Is there a way I can stop this from happening. There is a lot of them growing. I would like to be able to stop this anyway I can. Thanks for your replies

  1. Also, a large Oak tree, may not have a huge tap root, so it may be susceptable to being blown over in a high wind.  If it is close to your house, you may want to have it topped or taken down.  At least have an inspector check it out if it close to your house.

  2. These may be something called suckers if in fact they are growing from the roots. The only thing you can do is to prune them occasionally but obviously you don't want to damage the actual roots.

  3. I will assume they are from acorns and not directly from the roots. Pull them up! To prevent it, you will need a thick layer of mulch around the tree to prevent the acorns from gaining purchase.
