Live or Know in/about Small Towns?

Question

Do you know or live in a small town in the US where it is safe and fun and everyone knows one another, the schools, stores/shops (like the movie theatre, grocery store, antique shops, small girl shops) are real nearby, and it's where you can just walk into a store/restaurant and the workers will know you, and is it a town which no one really knows that well but is still fun? i would really appreciate it if u can give me the name of the small town and state. thanks!

Consider a small city. You can find a residential neighborhood in it with a small town feel, and you'll still have the shops and activities. Money Magazine has an article on the best small cities here:

Check out Petal, MS.

www.cityofpetal.com is the cities website, although it doesn't give very much justice.

www.petalschools.com is the website for the schools.  Rated as one of the top schools in MS. Received highest rating level of 5 for last several yrs.

Also known as a "sports illustrated town"

Located next to Hattiesburg. 15-20 minute drive. Hattiesburg is home to the University of Sothern Mississippi. Also know as a retirement community. Malls, shopping, dining, entertainment, all located in Hattiesburg.  Hattiesburg's nickname is "the Hub" because of it's proximatey to larger cities.  New Orleans, The MS gulf coast, Mobile, and Jackson, MS are all less than a 2 hr drive away.
