Live plants ok in a new tank?

i got live plants for my new fish tank and i was wondering if the plants will be able to live or not and what i should do.

yes they can live if they are from a pet store never use plants from local pond rivers etc. because of sickness and dieseas may be in plants and if you got plants that like the water type then go for it

The plants are not the concern.....it's all about the fish...you want to make sure that they will be able to survive in the water.   Your water needs to sit for at least 4 weeks before you even think about putting fish in it....you also should test the water....take it to a local pet store..most of them will test the water for free to tell you if it's ready for fish or not......also remember that you can only put 2" of fish for every gallon of water in your tank.....if you over populate the fish will stress and die.

Yes, you can have live plants in a new tank.

Actually I've read some people say that plants help tanks cycle faster eating up the excess nutrients and all.

If you have nothing but plants for now, as you didnt mention anything about fish, you should feed the tank every day just like there were fish in there. this will give the tank ammonia it needs to begin the process of building your beneficial bacteria.

most plants will do good in a tank as long as you keep the light on for the most of the dqay, so turn it on when you wake up, turn it off when you go to bed

and letting your water just sit for 4 weeks wont do anything, like the person above me stated, althoughits necesary to cycle your tank for fish, its not neccesary for plants,

and never put 2" of fish per gallon,  try less then 1" per gallon, cuz a 10 gallon tank wouldnt even fit 20 inch fishes, let alone 1 20 inch fish
