Question:

Live trees for wedding favour? INEXPENSIVE ONES??

I am looking for a large quantity of tree seedlings. I need about 100 of them. I am open to any kind of tree, as long as it will grow in Ontario, Canada (zone 5).

The thing is, I can't afford more than TOPS $150 on them. Do you know of anywhere I can get tree seedlings for about $1 a piece? I want to put them into these neat tall skinny votive holders I have, for centrepieces and guest favours... thanks a ton for all the help!

  1. Contact La Maison Verte

    Box 1868, Hearst, On. P0L 1N0

    (705) 362-7040

They are in the seedling business. They should be able to help or give you a pointer in the right direction.

  2. Do you really think your guests want to feel obligated to carry home a tree and then have to plant it, if they even have a place to plant it?  Honey, most of those little trees are going to end up in the nearest trash receptacle or dried up, dead and forgotten in their cars.

Use a few for your centerpieces and if any of the guests really do want a tree, let them take one of the centerpieces.

  3. Eastern White Pine is probably the best bet and least expensive option. Musser Forests has them but your price range is a real problem no matter where you go. You may have to increase your budget a bit or cut back elsewhere.

If you are willing to bag and bow them yourself you can get them for 1.50 each http://www.musserforests.com/prod.asp?p=...

If you want them wrapped with a bow the least expensive is $2.25 each http://www.musserforests.com/prod.asp?p=...

Another option is to use flower bulbs instead. This is less expensive and may work out better for your budget.
