Liverpool’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 has gone on to admit that he is highly delighted, after picking up the Carling Cup with the Reds and is hoping for this win to help the team perform even better.
The Reds took on Cardiff in a game that everyone assumed would be a walk in the park for the Merseyside club. However, with Cardiff opening the scoring, it was Liverpool who had to fight to get back in the game.
With the scored level at the end of the ninety minutes, the game went into extra time. Kuyt scored for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in extra time, but saw Cardiff draw level once again, just two minutes before the game was brought to an end.
As a result, the match went into penalties, where Liverpool edged past their opponents, with the penalty shootout score reading, 3-2 in Liverpool’s favour.
Despite the Reds dominating the game, Kuyt went on to praise Cardiff, their mentality and the fans that came to Wembley to support the team.
The Dutch international believes that the fans made the game a whole lot more interesting than anyone expected it to be and this really helped the teams perform to the best of their abilities.
Kuyt is quoted to have said: “They [Cardiff] were very impressive. I've got lots of respect for the manager, the team and the supporters"
"All I can say is, they [Cardiff's fans] deserve more, but we wanted this trophy so desperately and hopefully many to follow for the club now.”
The striker then admitted that the moment was a little unbelievable for him, since he joined Liverpool to win trophies and he finally managed to get his hands on one.
He then went on to add: “It's unbelievable, this is why I came to Anfield. To get my first medal at Wembley is great and hopefully we can get one more later on in the season.”
With Liverpool now having a lot of momentum working in their favour, following the Carling Cup win, it is now up to the team to try and pick up the FA Cup trophy, while trying to finish in the top four by the end of the season.
