To me, the Liverpool accent sounds very.... American?

It doesn't sound like the other English accents I know of. Do you agree?

  1. I will agree its unique, and is totally different from the surrounding accents (West Lancashire, Manchester etc). Its the sudden mix of different accents whilst the port was booming that developed scouse. ( English dialects, Irish, Welsh, Scotch, as well as different countries especially Scandinavian). Some people claim to be able to distinguish which part of the city an accent is from, but I can't.

As for it sounding American, I am not sure, most Americans are decedents of immigrants who passed through Liverpool on their way to the new world, it was the largest embarkation port, so another way of looking at it is that the American accent is derived from scouse!
