Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in more players in the summer transfer window to strengthen the squad.
Rodgers has admitted that the current Liverpool squad lacks depth and there are many young players who do not have the required experience.
The former Swansea City manager stated that the club started with a very young squad and there was little depth. He stated that this was the main reason that the club could not perform well in competitions such as the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup.
Rodgers hailed the January signings this year and admitted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Philippe-Coutinho-c29936 were instrumental in the second-half of the campaign. The boss is keen to improve the squad and is hopeful that Liverpool will be able to challenge for
major honours in the upcoming campaign.
“We had a paper-thin squad last year, we had kids all the way through. Obviously those players who have come in [in January] have added quality and it's no coincidence that we have kicked on when we've had quality in the group. We need to improve the group
and the depth but that's what gives me great hope for the summer,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician stressed that he wants to give Liverpool a good squad of 17 or 18 players that are all capable of playing in the first team. He admitted that a competition for places is extremely important for the side and wants the young players to learn
from the seniors throughout the course of the campaign.
“I don't want a massive group; we want a tight group with a real core of 17 or 18 players who feel they should always be playing and then supported by a few of our top young talents,” he concluded.
Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool ended the last season in seventh place and will not be playing in any European competition next season. The club has been linked to a host of players in the summer transfer window and if rumours are to be believed, an agreement
has already been reached for striker Iago Aspas.
