Liverpool Report On Transfers and Apparent Perils Facing The Club (Part 1)
Even though this was a casual incidence last summer, it was still shocking to some Liverpool fans to watch as their beloved player sat out the match against the Turks.
Alberto Aquilani sat out the match against Trabzonspor and they actually had a disappointing victory of one to nil, ‘The Reds’ expected a much steeper win which was not achieved.
The Turkish keeper played the match magnificently; he also did exceptionally well when blocking goals in the second half from Joe Cole and with another attempt that was a cut by Milan Jovanovic. This made sure that Liverpool only takes a slim lead against turkey.
Leaving out ‘The Reds’ last performance, the European qualifiers have been bombarded with questions about the comments Roy Hodgson made about Aquilani. It is thought that questions are being raised about the Italian mans future with the club.
Hodgson commented on the matter by saying that the club is considering loaning the player to an Italian club but it is not confirmed yet and they are still looking into it.
Shortly after Aquilani joined the team, he had an ankle injury which took a lot longer to heal than expected. Next he got sick with a virus after moving to the new country and took a long time to recover.
It was believed that Aquilani would finally make a name for himself this season and leave a permanent mark on the team which would be remembered for a long time.
So far Roy Hodgson has not included Aquilani in any major competitive competitions and normally chooses Lucas Leiva before him. Which is making Lucas thought to be a better and improved version of Aquilani.
Another thing noticed about the match was the lack of sharp play, the thirty year old Dane looked out of shape and could not maintain his pace in the first half and was pretty much struggling with it throughout the game.
For the first time since the time of Bill Shankly the team has won three European victories in a row and in the first three matches. Still Roy Hodgson is very hopeful and is showing signs of having a very positive term with Liverpool.
Still one thing noted about the sixty four year old Hodgson is that he keeps leaving a player, which the club paid twenty million pounds to get, with no evident injuries, sitting on the side lines .
Hodgson keeps using the older midfielders from Ainfield to play in the first team. Hodgson also substituted Ryan Babel after the half time interval even though he had scored a goal only moments before.
if something like this had been done by Liverpool’s former boss then he would have been bemoaned very enthusiastically by the media and the fans. It is not clear why Hodgson remains shielded from this. It could just be his hypocritical stance on the matter or the fact that he is the new guy and still doing wonders for the club.
Roy Hodgson miraculously has won over the players, journalists and the fans. What’s left for him to do now, is to persuade Alberto Aquilani and Javier Mascherano.
Javier Mascherano did articulate some interest during the end of last season that he wanted to play outside the English Leagues and pointed towards Italy and Spain.
Still there are only a few days left in the transfer window and Hodgson does not want him to go.  Hodgson has said that if a good offer came for Mascherano then he would not get in the way, even though this would hinder things for Hodgson.
It is not known what Javier Mascherano is going to do, will he leave Liverpool and go on to make a name for himself elsewhere or stay and be loyal to the club, or just go out on loan and return later.
Another thing that the player can do if he is desperate to leave Liverpool is to refuse to sign the contract; this would bring his transfer fees rocketing down and would ultimately lead to some club coming for him.
This has happened with ’The Reds’ before, back in 2004, Michael Owen had one year left on his contract with Liverpool and requested a transfer and the transfer fee was set on a measly eight million pound deal which was a pathetic sum for such a great player.
