Liverpool To Battle Juventus For Lisandro Lopez
It has emerged that Liverpool are facing serious competition from Italian side Juventus for Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez. Reports reveal that Lyon had approached the English club inquiring if they were interested in Lopez and had hoped for a big offer for
the 27 year old striker.
Liverpool did not show interest in the beginning, the club had internal problems which have now been settled with the arrival of the new owners. They have admitted interest in the Argentine striker, which may come too late since Juventus are also determined
to buy him.
Lopez is a natural goal scorer and has been the match winner for his team on countless occasions. The player has been given an efficiency ratio of a goal or an assist every 125.7 minutes this season. He is a physical player and is good in the air as well.
His coach described him as hard working and dedicated, the 27 year old has the unique ability to score from anywhere and possesses the skill to beat defenders way more experienced than himself. He is valued at €20 million-30 million and is contracted to
the French side until the end of 2013.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will actually go through and bid for the player, after the ownership battle things have settled down considerably at the club. Manager Roy Hodgson was unsure of his job, but he has been given countless reassurances that
he will maintain his position.
There were talks of Captain Steven Gerrard and start striker Fernando Torres leaving the club in the January transfer window, but the players now seem determined to stay. Liverpool’s last fixture in the Premier League showed their dedication as they led
their team to a 2-1 victory.
One has to ask, do Liverpool really need another striker? It would have made sense if Torres was leaving but the Spaniard seems to be staying. At this point the Reds should not spend funds unless absolutely necessary, if anything they should invest in good
defender, not a forward.
