Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool came up with a commanding performance to record a 1-0 win over Southampton at Anfield on Saturday.
Although the scoreline may depict a narrow victory for the hosts, but the men in Red could easily have notched up three to four more goals as their frontline and the midfield were in blistering touch.
In the following article, we will evaluate the performance of the Liverpool players, assigning them points on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest performance indicator.

The Spanish International was hardly tested during the game. Punched and collected nicely from corner kicks at times and was always up to the task when made to work.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 – 7.5
Was involved in a more attacking role by Brendan Rodgers and proved to be a constant nuisance for the Saints defence from the right wing time and again. Often neglected his defensive duties, but overall had an excellent outing.
Martin Skrtel – 7
Solid as ever in the rearguard. Made a couple of vital interceptions and always looked comfortable against the visitors’ attackers.
Jose Enrique – 7.5
Continued with his phenomenal recent form, flustering the opposition on the left side in particular. At times, he proved to be solid wall in the backline, making use of his strong stature to win the balls and linked up nicely with Luis Suarez upfront.

Liverpool’s top performer on the evening. The burly Dane kept the Southampton forwards at bay and headed home a fantastic header just at the stroke of halftime, which proved to be the decisive goal. Won a lot of balls in the air and preferred to initiate
counter attacks rather than making long clearances.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528 Leiva – 6.5
Looked a bit jittery in the opening stages, reluctant to go for any physical challenge, as it was his first start since August. However, grew in confidence as the match went on, dictating play at the heart of the field and received a standing ovation when
he was substituted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728.

Gerrard, or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s mister dependable, displayed yet another commanding performance. Fed some nice long and through balls for the attackers and was often in the thick of things while going forward. Played a couple of rare stray passes but was otherwise
at his very best.
Joe Allen – 7
His pass completion rate was excellent, but did not involve himself too much in the final quarter. However, ensured that his side dominated the midfield battle.

The juvenile midfielder vindicated his manager’s decision of giving him a starting berth as he introduced an attacking aspect to his side’s midfield. Came agonizingly close of getting on the scoresheet, as one of his blistering shots smashed the frame of
the goal. However, played a couple of poor passes and at times squandered possession rather too easily.
Raheem Sterling – 8
Was exceptional to say the least. His brisk pace was too much to keep up with for the Saints defenders. Made some startling runs down the right flank, and could have sealed the affair in the closing stages, but opted to play a cute pass which was somehow
cleared by the opposition’s defence.
Luis Suarez – 8
Proved to be a constant menace for the defenders, also involving his fellow attackers. Cannoned the woodwork with a breathtaking free-kick, but picked up a yellow card in the second period meaning that he won’t feature in the Reds next league fixture.
