Liverpool assistant manager Steve Clarke has tipped out-of-favour midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694, to prove his worth in the upcoming campaign and believes that the English midfielder will make full use of any opportunity given to him next season.
Cole has come under fire after failing to perform at the Merseyside club since making a Bosman transfer from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 last season.
The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield after failing to find a breakthrough in Dalglish’s squad. Moreover, Liverpool have also signed three more midfielders: Charlie Adam from Blackpool, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 from Aston Villa and
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102 from Sunderland.
These three new signings mean Liverpool have surplus options in the midfield ahead of the upcoming term and Cole would have to bring out his best in order to secure a starting eleven place in Dalglish’s squad.
The 29-year-old midfielder has hugely impressed in Liverpool’s Asian tour and featured in club’s friendly wins over Guangdong Sunray Cave and Malaysian XI.
Steve Clarke, who has worked with Joe Cole during their tenure at Chelsea, tips the English midfielder to continue his impressive form. Liverpool assistant manager also reckoned that Cole has the mettle and the quality to be successful at Liverpool next
season.
Clarke told the reporters, “At the end of last season he was not getting in the team because the team was playing well.”
“But he has trained hard and gone away and had a good summer. Joe Cole is a top international player. He has got a big contribution to make to the future. He is the same Joe Cole I coached at Chelsea, just a couple of years older and a little wiser,” added
the former Chelsea assistant manager.
Clarke believes that Cole will bounce back empathically next season and will be able to cement his place in Liverpool’s starting eleven.
“He knows the position he is in. It has been difficult for him because he has not been involved but, when he gets the chance, it is up to him to take it,” Steve Clarke concluded.
Despite playing a bit role at Liverpool last season, Joe Cole found the net three times in 32 matches.
