Liverpool boss says Glen Johnson could feature against Napoli
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson says that right-back Glen Johnson could be set to make his return in the English Premier League side's UEFA Europa League encounter with Napoli on Thursday, 4 November.
The England international has been out of action for around four weeks after sustaining a muscle injury. However, the 26-year-old came through a training session on Tuesday without any complications and could feature at Anfield on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Joe Cole could be in line to face his former club Chelsea on Sunday, 7 November, despite initial reports that he would be on the sidelines for around two weeks. The attacker picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers
on Sunday, but he could be set for a swift return to action.
Forward Dirk Kuyt will also miss the Napoli game, but could feature against EPL leaders Chelsea.
Hodgson told Liverpool's official website that: “Johnson trained today. If nothing happens tomorrow then he can play on Thursday.
"Dirk Kuyt is making extraordinary progress and with any luck he’ll train with the team on Friday. For the weekend (game against Chelsea) he’s a possibility if all goes well with the training sessions on Friday and Saturday.
“With Cole it’s not as bad as feared. It shouldn’t keep him out for that long. I would say it’s a week to ten-day injury. The scan was positive in that it’s a very minor tear he has, but you can’t really put a definite date on how long that tear is going
to take to repair, but the physical people are very optimistic. It’s a question of how quickly he can recover and what progress he can make. At the moment he’s not even ruled out for the Chelsea game, but we’ll see how he goes later in the week.”
Daniel Agger, meanwhile, has no set date for his return from a calf problem.
