Liverpool boss tips Fernando Torres to regain form
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson says that Fernando Torres will soon recapture the form that helped him to become one the world's most feared strikers.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner has struggled this season, since he made his return to the Anfield club from his exploits with Spain in South Africa.
In 16 games for Liverpool across all competitions this season, the attacker has scored just five goals, and has not found the back of the net in any of his last three games. His last goals for the club came as he scored twice in the 2-0 win over defending
English Premier League champions Chelsea on 7 November.
Hodgson claims that, while the attacker's confidence is not as high as it could be, it is not so low that there is any reason to panic, and claims that he was pleased with Torres' performance in the 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the EPL on Sunday 28 November.
He told reporters: "I think 'crisis of confidence' may be too strong. I was pleased with Fernando Torres. Fernando himself, because he sets very high standards, will be disappointed he didn't take on the goal chances which his good play ― to be fair ― created."
Torres has established himself as a key player for Liverpool since making the switch from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007.
In 133 total appearances for the Reds, he has netted 77 goals. While Torres has yet to win any silverware with Liverpool, his goals helped them finish in second place in the EPL in the 2008-09 season, just four points behind champions Manchester United.
Torres' next opportunity to get back on the goal trail will come when Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday 4 December.
