Liverpool considering expanding Anfield to compete with Premier League rivals
English Premier League side Liverpool are currently deciding whether to expand their current stadium at Anfield or move to another stadium.
The purpose for this is the Reds inability to compete with their Premier League rivals in terms of revenues generated.
This is why there has been talk of redevelopment or a move away, to an entirely new location where the stadium would have more seating capacity.
A senior official of the Fenway Sports Management, Billy Hogan, revealed that while a decision was yet to be made, they would ensure Liverpool equal footing with their rivals.
Hogan said while speaking to reporters:
“We see Liverpool as a truly global proposition from a marketing standpoint and a naming rights partnership with Liverpool Football Club is really unlike any other thing there is out there.
It's something we've seen some interest in and we'll continue to have those conversations.”
Hogan went on to say that the final decision would “rest on which opportunity allows us to keep generating revenue to compete with the rest of our competition in the Premier League.”
Since Fenway Sports Group, previously known as New http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 Sports Ventures, took over Liverpool they have put into motion plans to increase the clubs revenue.
They have adopted the same approach they took up when they took charge of the baseball side, the Boston Red Sox.
While their priority is to expand Anfield, the possibility of a new stadium has not entirely been ruled out, the site of which was identified as Stanley Park.
There has been no confirmation as yet, but it is certain that Liverpool are looking to expand their stadium for better revenues.
They will be taking a cue from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, who moved from Highbury Stadium to the Emirates Stadium in 2006.
The new stadium boasts a capacity of 60,355, which makes it the second largest football stadium in England, right behind Old Trafford, the home of the Red Devils.
After the first season at the Emirates, Arsenal reported they had recorded an increase in turnover, from £137.2 million to £200.8 million.
While Arsenal, like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, have not been able to win any silverware in the last five years, their turnover has been relatively better. An expansion of the stadium does wonders for the club in terms of operating profits, which is something Liverpool are
currently aiming for.
