Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher delighted with new arrivals and welcomes UEFA Champions League competition
Liverpool defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 is delighted about the prospect of seeing new players arriving at the club in the summer transfer window.
The Reds brought in Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez for a combined fee of approximately 58-million pounds in the January transfer window of 2011. The director of football at the club, Damien Comolli, has promised that further new signings are expected to take
place when the summer transfer window opens.
Liverpool are in a process of a complete overhaul of the team after failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for a second season in running. The chances of them making it for the next season’s competition also look bleak as they drift the fourth
placed Manchester City side by 11 points.
Carragher is desperately looking forward to see top players arriving at the club to ensure that the Reds find back their lost position in football.
“I think there will be a feel good factor going into the summer and the start of next season,” said the veteran defender. “As players we have to look after ourselves and do our own job but we are like supporters as well, we love to see top players coming
to the club and hopefully that will be the case. Everyone is delighted with the business we did in January and hopefully similar things will happen in the summer.”
Carragher will captain the Reds in a Premier League game against Manchester City on Monday, April 11 and he is happy to see that their opponents are in contention for a Champions League spot for next season. The 33-year-old added that the competition for
Champions League places is increasing every season and it is a very healthy sign for English football.
“Obviously they have raised the standard for Champions League qualification with the players they have brought in. I am sure it won't stop as there will be more coming in the summer - but that is up to them,” added Carragher.
There used to be a routine top four finish in the past six or seven seasons, where http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 used to fill in the top four spots, but things have changed now with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also entering
the fray.
