http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 defender, Jamie Carragher, has admitted that his team has missed a glorious opportunity to close the gap on fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur, to secure European football for next season.
The Reds lost to West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon. Despite taking the lead through Martin Skrtel, Liverpool squandered the advantage and gave away two penalty kicks that decided the game. Tottenham Hotspur also managed a draw in their respective fixture against Wigan Athletic, maintaining their five points lead over the Reds.
Liverpool have been in decent form of late and they started new striking duo, Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, against the West Midland side managed by former Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson.
The Liverpool vice-captain is disappointed with the result but went on to praise the performances of new arrival, Luis Suarez.
"It was disappointing to lose the game and with Tottenham only drawing makes this even more of a bad result. We obviously didn't know the Tottenham score until the end of the game but we can't worry about other teams. We've just to look after ourselves and get as many points as we can to try and close the gap. West Brom did well and it was a big three points for them, but it was a very disappointing day for us. Luis Suarez looked dangerous again for us and he was unlucky not to get an equaliser right at the end, but unfortunately besides the goal we didn't create enough chances in the first 75 minutes of the game." Carragher told LFC.tv
The 33-year-old made his 661st appearance for the club yesterday, which made him the club’s fourth highest appearing player of all time. This achievement definitely made the day better for the veteran and he is delighted to surpass the club legend Ian Rush.
Liverpool will play their next game against Manchester City and Carragher wants to bounce back from this defeat. The defender is confident of defeating Manchester City, same as they defeated their local rivals, Manchester United, earlier this season.
