Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that he would like to see more big name players arrive at Anfield.
The defender praised new signings Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, but he wants to see the club spend more money in the summer in order to help Liverpool regain their place at the top of the English foodchain.
The Reds have been going through a rough transitory period for the past one year. The arrival of new owners New England Sports Ventures gave the club more money to spend on new signings, but their newly appointed manager Roy Hodgson failed to translate the
increase in funds into Premier League success. Under Hodgson, Liverpool endured their worst start to a season in almost 50 years.
Ultimately, the owners were forced to dismiss Hodgson in December 2010, appointing fan favourite Kenny Dalglish in his stead. The Scot has done wonders in the short time he has been at the club, brining the club up from the bottom half of the table and into
sixth place in the League standings.
Unlike his predecessor, Dalglish has been wiser in his spending habits. The Scot brought in Luis Suarez from Ajax and Andy Carroll from Newcastle United, both of whom are looking like more of a bargain everyday.
Suarez has already achieved instant hero status at Anfield thanks to his heroics against Manchester United earlier in the ongoing 2010-11 season, and the Uruguayan shows no signs of slowing down. Meanwhile, Carroll is slowly but surely starting to prove
that he is worth every penny of his 35-million-pound transfer fee.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has praised the club’s new owners for providing the funds to bring in the duo, but he demands more of the same in the summer. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international wants the spending to continue as the Reds make a push towards the
Premier League title next season.
Carragher said, “There will be a feelgood factor going into the summer and the start of next season. As players we have to look after ourselves and do our own job but we are like supporters as well - we love to see top players coming to the club and hopefully
that will be the case.”
He added, “Everyone is delighted with the business we did in January and hopefully similar things will happen in the summer.”
Liverpool are currently in sixth place in the League standings, hot on the heels of fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur.
