http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are currently placed sixth in the league table and are four
points behind fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur, though, Tottenham do have a game in hand.
Liverpool endured a slow start to the ongoing season as the Reds were lurking in the bottom half of the Premier league table under former manager Roy Hodgson. Following Kenny Dalglish’s appointment, however, the Reds are climbing up the ladder in the points
tally.
New additions to the club, Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, are beginning to find their feet and Liverpool are certainly looking worthy challengers for the fifth place. The Reds’ recent 2-0 victory over Sunderland, coupled with Tottenham Hotspur dropping points
against West Ham in a 0-0 stalemate, has helped Liverpool’s cause of catching up on the Spurs.
Skrtel is delighted with the result and told Liverpool’s official website, "Tottenham dropped two precious points and I am happy that we are closing the gap on them".
In the match against Sunderland, Liverpool were awarded a 33rd minute controversial penalty, when midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Spearing-c18106 was fouled right on the edge of the penalty box. It was dubious call as it was not clear whether the tackle was made inside
or outside the penalty area.
Skrtel, however, was adamant that his side deserved the victory in spite of the lucky penalty.
He said,” I guess we fully deserved this result. We were the better team and we were dominant. It was a controversial penalty for some but this is football. They didn't have a clear chance so it is a fair result”.
Skrtel has had a decent season for his club this campaign. The Slovakian has started in all 30 matches for the Reds in the 2010/11 season.
Liverpool travel to West Bromwich Albion on 3rd April, 2011, and they will surely keep an eye on match between Tottenham Hotspur and Wigan Athletic. It will be interesting to see which club grabs the fifth spot in the EPL table come the end of
the season.
