Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel claims 2010/11 English Premier League season to be his best ever
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 defender, Martin Skrtel, has claimed that the 2010/11 Barclays English Premier League season was his best spell following his arrival in the Premier League.
While the recently concluded season did not bring any happy memories to Liverpool, it was an exception for the Slovakian who managed to represent the Reds in every single EPL fixture. Having endured 90 minutes of fatigue in all of Liverpool’s 38 Premier
League encounters, Skrtel has certainly emerged as a role model for the upcoming players.
The 26-year-old believes he has silenced his critics after remaining a first-team regular throughout the season. Skrtel believes he has proved the doubters wrong, who thought it would be a challenge for him to cement his place in the playing eleven for a
club like Liverpool.
While talking to Liverpool’s official website, the centre-back said,” It's probably been my best season ever, because I have played every single game. When I came here, a lot of people talked about the way I play, and many said I didn't have the quality
to play for Liverpool.”
Skrtel’s achievements aside, Liverpool would not be a content club. by finishing sixth in the league table, the club have failed to book a European football ticket for the next season. Liverpool made a dreadful start to the campaign under Roy Hodgson, who
was soon given the chop. Under the inspirational Kenny Dalglish, the club soon returned to winning ways, finishing sixth where they were in the relegation zone just weeks earlier.
The Slovakian admitted that Kenney Dalglish has played a crucial role in reviving Liverpool to get out from the stranglehold.
“In his first meeting with the team, Kenny said to us to trust him and trust ourselves. He gave us confidence. He is a great man, a nice person, who tries to talk to us all the time” Skrtel added.
The 26-year-old, who completed a successful transfer move from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008, believes that former manager, Rafa Benitez, and club legend, Sami Hyypia, played immense roles in helping him settle down at Anfield.
“Rafa Benitez helped me, because he gave me a chance and he also tried to help me every day in training. Sami Hyypia was a great player and also a nice person. He always tried to talk to me and explain things that I could change on the pitch.”
Skrtel has made 49 International caps for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Slovakia-c3007 and has played over 120 matches for Liverpool.
