Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel reveals that the season ended was his personal best – EPL news
Defender Martin Skrtel has claimed that the season ended was his personal best with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. He stated that he is proud of playing all the games in the English Premier League this season but admitted poor results in the first-half of the season had already
dented the club’s ambitions before Kenny Dalglish took over.
Skrtel made 49 appearances for Liverpool this season and scored two goals. The defender played in all of the 38 Premier League games this season and was the only Reds player to achieve that feat.
The Slovakian revealed that it was his best season to date for the Reds but rued some unimpressive performances from the team especially in the first-half of the campaign. He added that he did not suffer any major injury problem which is why he consistently
played so many matches for the club and hoped that he could carry on with the same spirit in the next season.
"For me personally I can say it's probably been my best season because I've played almost 50 games, including every game in the Barclays Premier League," the defender was quoted.
The former Zenit St. Petersburg player added that there was a huge contrast between the two halves of the season. He admitted that the performances were much better since January this year when Kenny Dalglish was named the caretaker manager of the club.
He also praised new signings, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, for the amazing impact they have made after joining the club in the January transfer window.
"Between the first and second half of the season the difference in results has been huge. Since January we've obviously been playing better. We changed the manager, then Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll came in. All of that helped us to regain our confidence
and play better. On the pitch we started winning and things started to go well,” concluded the player.
Martin Skrtel was signed by Liverpool in the winter transfer window of 2008 and signed a four-and-a-half-year contract. The player has since played 128 times for the Merseyside giants and scored three goals.
