Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel suffers injury setback – EPL News
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has confirmed that he has suffered another injury setback and is now uncertain whether he will be able to take part in the Reds’ opening fixture of the upcoming 2011/12 English Premier League campaign.
The Slovakian international was a revelation at the Merseyside club last season as he hugely impressed with his consistent performances at the back throughout the last campaign. Skrtel was one of the few players who played every single minute of the Barclays
Premier League matches last season.
However, the 26-year-old suffered a calf injury during pre-season with Liverpool. Skrtel was initially ruled out for more than three months but the defender showed mercurial recovery and was being tipped to regain his fitness ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s opening
fixture against Sunderland on August 13, 2011.
Skrtel has also been dropped from Slovakia’s international friendly match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Austria-c2844. The 26-year-old confirmed his injury news on his personal website.
A statement on the defenders’ personal website reads, “I suffered an injury setback on Friday. I felt strong pain in my leg so I am back with the doctors receiving treatment.”
The Slovakian international also confirmed that he is uncertain about the extent of time which he would have to spend on the sidelines due to the calf injury. However, the player has assured that he is doing to his best to regain his full fitness.
"I really don’t know how long it will take to heal. I am doing my best to be back as soon as possible," the 26-year-old concluded.
Kenny Dalglish has also confirmed that Skrtel is yet to train with Liverpool and has claimed that the club is closely monitoring his injury situation.
Dalglish told the reporters, “Martin has not joined in with us yet (in training). So we will wait and see.”
The Slovakian centre-back played scored twice in 49 fixtures for Liverpool last season, and Liverpool will be hoping for more of the same this time around as well.
