Opta stats reveal that the Merseyside club were either one of the most wasteful or most unlucky clubs during the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League campaign.
Kenny Dalglish has had a mixed first season at the helm of the club where he was revered as both a player and a manager. King Kenny as he known by many at Anfield, guided the club to their first trophy in six years when they lifted the Carling Cup after
a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Cardiff City.
At the same time, the club almost had their hands on a second trophy as well when they marked their first appearance in an FA Cup final since winning the competition in 2006. However, it was not to be their day as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 got the better of them on the occasion.
While the club’s performances in cup competitions has been nothing short of exemplary, Liverpool’s league form took a turn for a worse in the second half of the season. Having lost only three games in the first half of their season, Liverpool’s record become
worse after every match.
Opta, the website known for having statistics on pretty much everything that goes on in the footballing world, recently put out a list of the 2011/12 season and it turns out that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 topped every list that they did not want to.
In terms, of players who have taken the most number of shots without scoring, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221, was the highest ranked. His tally of 72 shots in the season without a goal was seven shots greater than Shaun Wright-Philips tally of 65 shots.
That was not all as Liverpool managed to it the woodwork an incredible 33 times this season, finishing head and shoulders above Fulham (24) and Manchester City (21). Had the Reds efforts gone it would have been a completely different season for the club.
At the same time Luis Suarez was Liverpool’s biggest culprit as he hit the post 8 times this season, second only to Robin van Persie’s 10 efforts which came back off the post.
Those statistics are something Liverpool will look to improve on next season, as it seemed they did everything right in the league, except score.
