If you didn't see it, like me, here's the match report:

"Although Keane was not responsible for setting up Torres for his opener in the 24th minute, there was enough inter-passing and thrilling movement between the £40m pairing to suggest that they will run many a defence ragged before the season is out. In the 13th minute, Keane began finding Torres with sweetly timed passes. On the first memorable occasion, Torres failed to take advantage, though there were more glimmers of promise to come.

The rout began when Damien Plessis, partnering Steven Gerrard in midfield, unleashed a shot that proved too hot for Rangers keeper Allan McGregor to handle. Torres helped himself to the loose ball, scoring one of the easiest goals of his already-illustrious career.

Four minutes later came sparkling teamwork between Keane and Torres, though on this occasion the Spaniard's shot was blocked.

Torres was substituted at half time by David N'gog who added a virtuoso second at the end of a solo run in the 57th minute, which signalled a well deserved rest for Gerrard and Keane.

Yossi Benayoun added a third after Krisztian Nemeth forced McGregor to parry into the Isreali's path. And Xabi Alonso completed an emphatic display by the Merseysiders when he drilled the fourth from the penalty spot after being fouled by Kirk Broadfoot."

Bring on the new season I say! The title is ours! ;)

  1. as a LFC supporter,i missed the game but when i heard the result i must admit i did not believe it.great result for us.and to think they want to join the prem league.rangers were awful .

  2. Same was last pre season. Look what happened? Agger got injured and we started losing points. If Agger was fit and playing, then we could have won the EPL.

Hypia (class player but slow) came in, so Rafa had to change the midfield for the change.

  3. I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEW SEASON!

I'm watching liverpool play middlesbrough at anfield, i'm so excited!

I know we're going to do well this season = )

His armband proved he was a red, TORRES, TORRES,

    Liverpool's number 9!

He won euro 2008,, TORRES, TORRES,

Another reason he's so great, TORRES, TORRES,

He scored the winning goal for spain

    Another wonder strike again

    FER-NAN-DO  TO-RRES , liverpools number nine!!!!!

  4. It's an encouraging result, but it's not the real deal yet. Ask me again when a third of the season's gone by.

  5. I thought we were just a silly little league with no talent?

  6. Wow they have beaten a Scottish team , big deal

  7. Yes very, even though they our opponents were only Rangers, they are the heart of Glasgow so seeing the Reds do what they do best was very exciting! It was good to see N'Gog score, some say he's the new Thierry Henry so that will bode well for us in the new season!

Even though Robbie Keane never scored, you could see some understanding between him and Torres!

I cant wait for the new season, the friendly win will have given them a boost and hopefully land the 19th title!

    :)

  8. I have heard this for 17 years, wait until the season is over.

  9. be honest beating rangers is like beating a dusty carpet   EASY  EASY  EASY

  10. Do not rest with such glories......ManU, Chelsea are the real big boys to be beaten........If they achieve, undoubtedly they are the best.....http://soccergauge.blogspot.com/2008/07/...

  11. I am happy they won,but it means nothing. As a Liverpool fan for 45 years, win lose draw in a game desighned to get your fitness level up will never get ME  exited.3 points away to Sundeland and i may have an extra beer.

  12. Very much so (:

    It was an awesome game

Turns out Scottish teams wouldn't do so well in the Premier League eh.

I prefer Insúa on the left side of midfield rather than defense, he's good at getting crosses in.

  13. Not to rain on your parade, but it would have been much more impressive if you won against Rangers at their full force, not the tired looking lots you played yesterday...

  14. lets give Liverpool the Premiership now eh?

  15. lets just say....

I had to change my panties 3 times.....

    =P

  16. We get this every year from you lot and i promise you this year will be no different, you cant play against the big boys !Did you get 3 points from Chelsea or Man Utd last year?

Chelsea beat AC Milan 5-0, and i would regard that as a much better result from a Rangers team that was tip tapping about worrying about the tie in mid week.

it will be a 3 horse race this year between Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal probably ending in that order :) and i believe you will stuck battling with Tottenham for 4th place :)

  17. Steady on it was only Rangers.

  18. Lets not get carried away everyone it was only Rangers, they are absolutely woeful even though they reached the UEFA cup final last year, look at some of their players, Kenny Miller was playing for Derby last year and scored 3 or 4 goals, Kyle Lafferty was playing for Burnley where he scored an amazing 10 goals in 90 games, Kirk Broadfoot? say no more, and it was only a friendly!

Mrs Torres, Celtic have won the league in Scotland for the last 3 years, so i hardly think Rangers are the heart of Glasgow, they are the 2nd best team in a bad league so don't get carried away.

  19. Nice

  20. Wonderful performance, hope they can do the same against Sunderland on August 16

  21. you had a great pre season last year if i remember right.. fat lot of good that did you .. bless ya for your faith tho bud .. have a star..

  22. it was only a pre season game bud!nothing to get excited about!remember, they have struggled to score before that game! but if they can get similar results all season against the weaker teams in the premiership they will surely have the premiership won!i always say that we need to kill off the weaker teams when we play them but we never do and end up suffering the consequences.
