Liverpool finally settles on a deal with Ajax for Luis Suarez
Liverpool have finally settled on a deal with Ajax for striker Luis Suarez after both clubs negotiated for almost a month. The deal is being reported to be worth €26.5 million (£22.8 million). Ajax has now given Suarez permission
to discuss personal terms with Liverpool.
A statement on Ajax’s official website read, “Ajax and Liverpool have reached an agreement over the transfer of Luis Suarez. He will make the move to the English club immediately. The deal is worth up to a total of €26.5 million.”
Liverpool had their initial bid of €15 million (£12.5 million) for the player rejected and an Ajax spokesman advised the English club to be more respectful with the offer. The spokesman said, “If you compare the €15 million (£12.5
million) Liverpool want to pay for Suarez with other transfers you can imagine that it's far too low for us.”
After this bid by the Merseyside club, Ajax’s general director Rik van den Boog stated that the club will not be prepared to sell Suarez for anything less than £25 million.
Ajax coach Frank de Boer also seemed keen to finalize the deal as quickly as possible. He stated last week that if any club is interested in buying Suarez they need to speed up the process. This week also, just over 24 hours ago,
De Boer had set a Saturday deadline for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and other clubs to finalize a deal for Suarez.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish will also be relieved that his club has reached an agreement for the Uruguayan striker. Dalglish had started to show his agitation over the stalemate between the two clubs over the player. Earlier
this week, he broke his silence over transfer issues and stated that if Liverpool do not add a new player to their squad by the end of the current transfer window, it will not be because of lack of trying.
Liverpool are currently on a 2-match winning streak in the Premier League and now stand 7th on the league table. This is also the highest position they have attained this season. The second of these two matches, against
Fulham, ended with a scoreline of 1-0 and raised a few questions about the attacking option at the disposal of the club.
The addition of Suarez at Anfield will surely come in handy for Dalglish but we will have to wait and see if the versatile striker will revive the Reds’ season. Liverpool’s next match in the League is against Stoke on Wednesday,
February 3.
