Liverpool forward Ryan Babel looking to show his true ability
Liverpool forward Ryan Bebel aims to answer the prayers of many adoring Liverpool fans by finally showing his true form for his current club.
Former Reds manager Rafael Benitez signed the Dutch attacker for a reported fee of 11.5 million pounds from Ajax back in 2007, but has failed to leave a good impression on the Reds in the premier league. Benitez fancied playing the player on the wings but new manager Roy Hodgson has told the attacker that he would want him to feature in his preferred centre forward role.
The Dutch international claims that the new manager’s plans would help him show his true quality in front of goal.
"I aim to be a striker. The manager has told me that up front is where he wants to use me. That's positive. Now I have to show him in training sessions that I can do the job. If I do that I will get chances to play in that position. A lot of people still doubt my quality or whether I'm good enough to play for Liverpool”, claimed the 23-year-old former Ajax striker. Babel hopes that at last, with some help from his colleagues, he can finally answer to the chants of fans and deliver the promises for which Liverpool paid 11.5 million pounds.
Babel noted that for him to be playing consistently would be the much needed factor. The player pointed out that he would need to start every match and play at the highest level in every game. Since the player joined the side back in 2007, the 23-year-old has scored 21 times in 130 appearances. His career is still not finished and he would want to prove his worth for Liverpool. With only Fernando Torres as a sole recognized striker, Babel would want to up his performance and share the burden with the Spanish forward. Torres is still struggling to find his devastating goal scoring form this season as the Spanish had an injury plagued last season.
Liverpool hit rock bottom last season when they finished 7th in the league. It was the first time in nearly 7 years that Liverpool has broken away from the top four. Liverpool finished 4 points below Manchester United in the season prior to last year’s run and many of its top players vowed to leave. The sink in performances led to the eventual sacking of Rafael Benitez, who has now found employment in Italy with Champions league winners Inter Milan. Former Fulham coach, who guided the low lying premier league side to their first ever European final last season, accepted to offer his services to take the Reds out of turmoil. Reds have so far had a troubled season, managing only 5 points from their opening four games, which could’ve produced a possible 12.
Liverpool would now be travelling to Old Trafford to face arch-rivals Manchester United in the premier league. There has always been a lot of history and heritage on the line every time these two teams clash and that was the major reason behind Sir Alex Ferguson employing the second team against Glasgow Rangers on Tuesday.
