Liverpool gives a confidence-shattering 3-0 defeat to Manchester City ahead of their FA Cup Semi-final
Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City received a demoralizing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the English Premier League fixture, where the Reds' striker, Andrew Carroll, jolted two thundering strikes and gave a perfect delight
to thousands of Liverpool fans who watched the match at Anfield Road. Carroll was helped by his team-mate, Dirk Kuyt, who also chipped in with a one goal to give a major dent to the Blues' confidence ahead of their FA Cup semi-final which will played on 16 April
at Wembley.
Liverpool, who holds an unbeaten home record this season, remained the dominant side throughout the match. The 13th minute of the match turned the match in Liverpool’s way as the former Newcastle striker, Andrew Carroll,
blasted the volley into the Blues' goal to give a one goal advantage to the Reds.
The 13th minute gave the biggest set-back to Manchester City in the shape of their most trustworthy striker Carlos Tevez’s hamstring injury. Sir Alex Ferguson must have taken a huge sigh of relief with Tevez injury,
who will most probably miss the semi-final match against Manchester United. Roberto Mancini replaced the injured Tevez with Mario Balotelli.
Liverpool continued to pile up pressure against the Blues as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348’s 34th minute strike extended the Reds' lead to two goals. To add up to the misery of the City, Carroll chipped in with his second goal in the 35th
minute where he was assisted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 Meireles' pass.
There was only one booking that came up in the 27th minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Aurelio was given a yellow card for his hard challenge on Dzeko.
Liverpool were a relaxed side when they entered the dressing room at the end of the first half. Although, the City’s manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 in the 59th and 83rd minutes respectively. But, it didn’t proved out to be fruitful for the City and the match ended in a dejected 3-0 defeat for the Blues.
Liverpool have been unbeaten at home ever since Kenny Dalglish took the managerial role from Roy Hodgson and now, they have extended their unbeaten home record to eight games as this was their sixth victory.
This defeat must have dented the hopes of the Blues who are in a desperate hunt to win silverware for more than three decades. It would be an uphill challenge for the City to overcome the United at the FA Cup semi-finals especially,
in the absence of Tevez who had struck 19 goals in this season.
