Liverpool in need of a time machine!

Liverpool is a club steeped in history. It is the most successful English club with 18 league titles, a record the reds now share with Manchester United. Liverpool is the only English club to have been crowned European champions on 5 occasions. Only 2 clubs
in Europe have won the European cup more times, AC Milan has won it 7 times and Real Madrid 9 times. These stats are very impressive but Liverpool has failed to live up to its name. They last won the league 20 years ago in 1989/90 and their last European cup
was won in 2005.
In recent years Liverpool has let down its ever faithful and passionate supporters. Each season brings new hope but yet the club seems to stumble each time. Same mistakes have been repeated over and over again. Along with the very well documented on field
problems, the club always manages to make matters worse via the action in the board room. Most red’s fans blame the previous owners Gillette and Hicks for the recent failures. It is widely acknowledged that the main concern for the previous owners was money
and not football but they underestimated the KOP as they were pushed out of Liverpool FC eventually.
Some pundits believe Rafa Benitez is also amongst the culprits for the turmoil at the club. Currently Liverpool is in the bottom half of the EPL table after suffering its 5th defeat of the season at the hands of a mediocre Stoke. It seems Champions
League football will again elude the reds this season as 4th place looks a distant possibility with the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham moving in the right direction.
Currently Liverpool needs to protect its assets. If things continue to deteriorate the likes of Torres and Reina may have to say good bye to Anfield. Even club captain and the spine of the team Gerrard, may look elsewhere for more silverware. The new owner
John Henry has his work cut out in order to keep the fans behind his back. The Anfield faithful are hoping the new owner will help bring back the glory days.
In order for Liverpool FC to re-live the past, the new management and the owner will have to make drastic changes to show the world that Liverpool is an ambitious club. Big name signings is one way to show such ambition. This season Liverpool did not manage
to do so, failing to secure any eye catching summer signings. Players such as Vandervart, Silva and Ozil were available in the transfer market but the club did not even put an offer on the table for them to consider. This was very frustrating for the demanding
KOP and eventually proved to be a catalyst for the exit of the previous owners.
Despite the recent frailties Liverpool still has one of the largest fan bases in the world. The Asian market is full Liverpool fanatics providing plenty of revenue for the club. If things continue to plummet the new generation will find it very hard to link
themselves to the club. The club cannot lean entirely on its astounding history to progress. Some die hard supporters wish they had a time machine that would bring back the Kenny Daglish days but unfortunately such technology will only be available in the
future and currently the future does not look very bright for the reds.
