Liverpool injury news: Steven Gerrard expected to feature against Fulham
Liverpool FC manager has revealed that captain Steven Gerrard is expected to be fit ahead of his side’s clash against Fulham FC in the English Premier League.
Gerrard has been out of action since suffering from a hamstring injury in England’s international friendly match against France in November.
Roy was quite pleased with the progress made by the 30-year-old talisman; however, the manager did not want to rush him back into action after a long lay-off.
He said, “Steven's on track for the weekend. He's worked very hard to get back and Steven and Jamie Carragher are the type who hate not playing. Steven has been determined to get back as quickly as possible and the physios are happy with him and he feels
quite good. We have to be careful there is no risk of the injury reoccurring.”
Steven’s return will be a big boost to the Reds, who always seem to struggle without the imposing presence of their skipper in the centre of the park. The Liverpool no.8 links the play from the defence to the front men and is also capable of hitting the
target from any given range.
After the loss against Newcastle United at the weekend, Liverpool lie 8th in the league table with 22 points from 17 games.
Meanwhile, Hodgson has hinted that he will field a strong line-up against FC Utrecht in the UEFA Europa League. However, the former Fulham FC boss also supported his rotation policy as his side are involved on domestic and continental fronts.
He said, “It is a good chance to give some players a run out. It's a good chance for Jonjo to show what he can do again. He's played a lot of European games and done very well. But it's also a chance for Ryan Babel. Fernando Torres will be involved in the
game, as will Pepe Reina and our centre-backs. We have actually fully utilised our squad, particularly in our European matches."
Striker David N’Gog and left-back Paul Konchesky will miss the European fixture, however England international Glenn Johnson is set to start against Utretcht.
The Reds have already qualified for the knockout stage of the competition and will play the final match of the group stage at Anfiled on Wednesday night.
