Liverpool interested in Trezeguet & Harry Redknapp hails Gareth Bale's growth
Former French international striker, David Trezeguet is believed to be attracting interest from Premier League club, Liverpool. According to the player’s agent, the Juventus forward is being hunted down by the Merseyside club.
Reports published in Italian media suggest that Liverpool have been enquiring about the Juventus Striker, after their midfielder Alberto Aquilani joined Juventus on a season long loan.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is believed to be interested in enhancing his attacking force for the new season, and is keen to sign the French front man before the transfer window closes on 31st of August.
Trezeguet has been the subject of some speculations, as he has not been part of Juve’s starting line up in recent times. Last season he was never the first choice when it came to the attacking options for the old lady. Antonio Calindo, the agent of Trezeguet admitted that Liverpool is one of the clubs looking to sign his client. He added that 2 clubs from Spain, Real Zaragoza and Hercules have also shown their interest. He said that till now there have been just enquiries and probes but neither an official offer nor a bid has yet come.
He said that Trezeguet has a week to make up his mind before the transfer window closes, and it is quite likely that he might make the move..
Meanwhile, over in England Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp has shown his delight over the coming of age of his Welsh player, Gareth Bale.
The left sided full back signed for Spurs as a teenager for 10 million pounds from Southampton in 2007. His early time with the club was not that fruitful, and had to fight for his place. There was also the superstitious aspect attached to his game, which was that in the first 24 matches he played for Spurs, the team did not win even once.
Later, Benoit Assou-Ekotto cemented the left back spot in the team, and Bale was limited to the bench for most of the games. Though he was tried out on the wing but did not do much to justify his selection.
Redknapp said that Bale is finally playing to his potential and growing as a player. Redknapp said that his performance in the 2-1 win against Stoke was clear evidence of how much he has matured in last 3 years.
Harry insisted that when he came to the club, he was a player with raw talent and needed time to enhance his abilities and now the time is right for him to prove his worth. On a lighter note, Redknapp said that in his early days he was physically weak and was easily overpowered by strikers. He added that he needed to work on his physical appearance more than spending hours on his hair. The manager said that Bale has finally grown up, he said that when he took over the job at Spurs Bale was still a baby. He said that whenever he was subject to a physical challenge on the training ground he would leave limping off. However, now it is not the same as he has worked on his physique and is much tougher and stronger.
Redknapp said that by trade he is a left back, but has the soul of an attacking player and that is the reason he often left his post and was found in the attacking third of the opposition. Redknapp went on to say that it is a great quality to have in a left back, but his first priority remains helping the centre backs in defence. He said that he did have several talks with the youngster and told him to toughen up and start playing like a defender rather than a winger.
