Liverpool legend Alan Hansen admits that he never thought any team could surpass the Reds

Liverpool legend, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Hansen, admitted that he never thought that any team in the country could knock Liverpool off their perch after having won 18 league titles until 1989/90.
The Reds have not won a single league title since then, and Manchester United have gone onto win 12 league titles in that period and are on the verge of emulating the Reds as the most successful club in the country.
Manchester United beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson, has fulfilled the promise – of overtaking Liverpool as the most successful club in the country – he made while taking the reins at Old Trafford in 1986.
Hansen admitted that he never foresaw the record being broken. In fact, he expected title number 20, 21 and even 22 coming in the near future from the way things were going for the Reds in his time. The 55-year-old added that until the time Ferguson is there at the club, he will continue to haunt the rivals with success.
Talking to the reporters, Hansen said, "When http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 to lift our 18th League Championship in 1990, nobody mentioned Manchester United.
"Nobody mentioned how many titles we had won, or how far ahead we were. None of us thought we would ever stop winning. We certainly didn’t think anyone would beat that record, not in our lifetime. We never thought anyone could knock us off our perch. The idea of anyone catching us was unthinkable, not even Manchester United.” added the Scot
The rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United is so immense that the two clubs have not exchanged a player since the transfer of Phil Chisnall from Manchester United to Liverpool in 1964.
Hansen added that the Merseyside fans will now only have their superior European record to show the United fans, as they have won five UEFA Champions League as compared to United’s three. This gap might be reduced to one as the Red Devils have qualified for the final of Champions League 2010/11.
