John Barnes has backed Andre Villas-Boas as a candidate for taking over the vacant managers’ position at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Porto manager’s style suits the Reds.
Liverpool have parted with ways with Kenny Dalglish after the Kop Icon had a disappointing season in the Barclays Premier League which saw the club miss out on the top four. A Carling Cup trophy and an appearance in the FA Cup final were not enough to save
the former Liverpool legend from the axe.
A number of names have been linked with the managerial post at Liverpool with former Reds’ manager, Rafael Benitez and Wigan Athletic boss, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468, both said to be in the running.
However, John Barnes, who made 314 appearances for the Reds and scored 85 goals, believes that Andre Villas-Boas is the best man for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
"Andre Villas-Boas is a good manager," began Barnes, before continuing, "His footballing philosophy and his style of play fit. He proved he could win things at Porto.”
Commenting on his tenure as Chelsea manager, Barnes believed that the manager was simply there at the wrong time. He said, "He was at the right club at the wrong time with Chelsea. There were a lot of problems for him there because of the older players.”
Barnes also has no doubt over AVB’s credentials when he went on to state that, "He is a proven manager and he would be coming in to a humbler squad than the one at Chelsea if he came to Liverpool.”
According to the Kop Icon AVB could gel the young squad of Liverpool players together and reach the levels of success with the club that he could not with Chelsea.
"He will get backing from the players. They will be eager to learn and listen to his plans. I think if it is going to be him he could do a good job at Liverpool."
AVB would fit Fenway Sports Group policy when it comes to long term ambitions however, it seems that for the time being Wigan Athletic manager, Roberto Martinez is in the front seat as the club’s chairman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Whelan claims to have given Martinez permission
to speak with Liverpool.
