Liverpool look to continue spending big, eye http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 winger Florent Malouda for £8 million
Chelsea winger http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838 could be heading to Liverpool for an estimated fee of £8 million in the summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old Frenchman has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and so far has not been able to secure a contract extension.
Malouda admitted that he had had various talks with the Chelsea management in hopes of getting a contract extension.
However, no progress had been made which could only mean the Blues are planning to offload the winger during the transfer window.
If the Blues wait for Malouda’s current contract to expire then they will not be able to make anything on his departure.
This is why it is expected the Frenchman will be sold this summer, with Chelsea already targeting possible replacements.
Not surprisingly, Liverpool have emerged as the top contenders for the Chelsea winger and are reportedly prepared to pay as much as £8 million to secure his signature.
It seems Liverpool are intent on making ridiculously expensive and useless signings. They started off with signing former Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll for £35 million in the January transfer window.
If that wasn’t bad enough, they recently completed the signing of 20-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102 from Sunderland for a fee of £20 million.
£20 million for an inexperienced midfielder, who has yet to prove himself in club and country football, is ridiculous.
However, it seems to be the order of the day for Liverpool.
They are determined to put another highly disappointing season behind them and immerse themselves in spending big in the summer.
With £20 million already down the drain, the Reds have no turned their attention towards a 30-year-old Malouda.
Despite his impressive form for Chelsea in the last two seasons, it is understood the winger is past his prime.
After the disappointment that was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694, Liverpool are looking to refresh their current squad with a mixture of both young and experienced players.
They could definitely use someone experienced in midfield and either wing, and while Malouda could temporarily fulfil their requirements, he is not a long term solution.
With striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yossi-Benayoun-c37520 to Chelsea, injury is not the only thing Liverpool are losing their players to.
Speaking of injuries, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 missed the last part of the season due to a long-term injury.
He is expected to recover by the start of the next season, but realistically speaking the 31-year-old cannot be expected to have the same impact on the squad.
His playing days seem to be coming to a close and it is high time Liverpool realized this and found a suitable replacement.
Along with Gerrard, defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 is another player who is close to retirement, and should retire if he cares for his team.
While he has gone on to make a record 668 appearances for Liverpool, his poor form and lack of pace has led to many costly mistakes recently.
Liverpool should reconsider their spending plans and focus more on talented players below the age of 30 instead of aiming for other clubs left-overs.
Joe Cole and now Malouda are prime examples. However, the Blues will benefit extremely from selling the Frenchman for a fee of £8 million, having bought him for £13 million in the summer of 2007.
