http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s managing director, Ian Ayre has said that the club is looking to hold talks with Luis Suarez in order to extend his contract at Anfield.
Suarez came to Liverpool from the Dutch side Ajax, on a five and a half year deal in January 2011. The Uruguayan, who has played almost a complete season at Anfield, has still got another four and a half years left on his current deal
with the club. However, the Reds are aiming to prolong the player’s stay at the Merseyside club and will aim to convince the striker to agree to a new long term deal.
Suarez has had a tough season, this time around. He was banned for eight matches after being found guilty of making racial comments against Manchester United’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231. The player was described as a ‘disgrace’ by United’s
manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson, after he refused to shake hands with Evra before the start of a Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United. However, his team mates and manager have extended full support for the player.
Even though Suarez himself has expressed the desire of playing for the Reds for a long time, Ayre said that the club will seek an extension on the player’s contract in the summer. However, he said that even if it does not happen, the striker
will not be sold by Liverpool in the foreseeable future.
"Listen, he's got a contract until 2016, he has said he wants to stay. I am sure [director of football] Damien [Comolli] will be speaking to his agent," said Ayre.
He also said that Suarez remained a vital asset to Liverpool and is hugely popular amongst the club’s fans and the players.
"Who wouldn't want Luis Suarez? He is absolutely fantastic. He is such a popular member of our team. But they are the things we talk about behind closed doors, and we will further that discussion when it is right and proper. Luis is a
vital and important part of our set-up, and long may that continue." He said.
Meanwhile, the Reds boss Kenny Dalglish, has said that Liverpool must learn from their mistakes following the defeat against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314.
Dalglish’s side led QPR at the Loftus Road Stadium by a two goal margin, but were hit by a late flurry of goals as the home side made a stunning comeback against the Reds. The defeat dealt a severe blow to the Merseyside team, extinguishing
their prospects for a top four finish. It was also Liverpool’s fourth defeat in their last five league matches.
Dalglish said that even though his team has been constructive in so many parts of the game, they need to find answers as to where they went wrong so that they can learn from their mistakes.
