Liverpool looking for Steven Gerrard replacement
Liverpool's new manager Roy Hodgson, is reported to be on the verge of beating the teams arch rivals, Manchester United to singing the overly impressive Belgian international Steven Defour.
This move has come about as the manager has started to look into the numerous options that he has at hand to try and strengthen the side this coming January.
With the club now having new owners, the team has been given the green light on buying any players in the future, which would have not been possible for the club just a week ago considering just how poorly they were doing.
That being said the team is looking more than likely to move in for Defour as early as January and bring the player, who has often been referred to as the 'New Steven Gerrard' to Anfield so they can have both the player play side by side.
With the new owners looking to make an immediate impact on the fans and the League, they are willing to let Roy Hodgson sign as many as three players in January. Being given that freedom the manager has insisted that he would like to go ahead and make a move for the ten million pound rated midfielder, since he feels that he could prove to be just the player, who could make the difference in the side.
Liverpool have been underperforming in the league and are currently sitting in the nineteenth spot in the league, which by the teams standards is nothing short of a nightmare.
The manager clearly needs to take that into account when he is going to be bringing in players. Defour despite being as good as he is, is highly inexperienced at the highest level, which means that he cannot and most probably will not be the player to bring the change to the team.
All the player can really do is come in and do what he is asked to, but if the team around him is failing to perform then he won't do much to change that either. Gerrard himself has also been largely unsuccessful at reigniting the team this season and a player, who is supposed to be the new him, can only do as much as the real Gerrard can do. Perhaps Hodgson needs to realize that he needs to get his teams act together before he starts bringing in countless new players.
