Liverpool looking to lure Ibrahim Afellay to Anfield
According to several media sources, it seems like Liverpool are going to attempt to make an audacious effort to bring in Barcelona midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ibrahim-Afellay-c16547. This is despite the fact that the Dutch player joined the Catalan outfit
just a month ago and is yet to become a regular part of the Barcelona squad. However, due to this very reason - the player not finding much first team action - he is apparently rather unhappy at the club and is hence being linked with a potential move away
from the team just six months after joining it.
At the same time, it seems like Afellay is not willing to let his career go down the same path as that of Alexander Hleb’s. After joining Barcelona from Arsenal in 2008, Hleb never really made his name in the side due to the overflow
of talent at the Spanish club and he is now back in the Premier League playing for Birmingham City.
As a result, it seems like Afellay has made up his mind to jump ships, if a reasonable approach is made for the player over the course of the next few months. Nonetheless, that being said, Barcelona are sure to make a profit on
the two million pounds that they spent on landing the player.
Liverpool were previously linked with a move to land Afellay prior to him joining Barcelona and were at one point considered to be the front runners to land him. However, due to some rather unforeseen setbacks in the team’s season,
the Netherlands’ international opted to make the switch to Camp Nou instead.
Should Afellay join Liverpool, the player would certainly get more field time than he is currently getting at Barcelona. This is because at the moment, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678.
However, the duo has hardly ever played together due to the injuries that Gerrard has endured over the last few months. As a result, if Afellay is to make the move to the Merseyside, then he could potentially be playing every other game, if not every game.
This is because not only can the midfielder play in his signature position in the centre of the park, in fact he can adopt to either flank and even play as a shadow striker.
This ability of the player has seen him make it to the top of Liverpool’s wish list.
Nonetheless, if Liverpool are to make a bid to try to land the player, then they are probably going to have to part ways with as much as nine million pounds for him. The drastic hike in the player’s value might come as a shock
to most, but when Barcelona landed the player, he was on the verge of running out of a contract, which is why they landed him much cheaper then he would have actually cost them. However, Liverpool are going to be more than happy to spend nine million pounds
on a player, who could potentially solve a number of their midfield problems.
